Jaiku to rise from the dead
A lot of people are talking about how Google has "dropped the ball" in regards to Jaiku. True, I think they are going to be late comers to the social aggregation scene. However, Google still has a card up their sleeve. Android. Judging from Scoble's response at GoogleIO, Android phones are going to have some good competition with the iPhone. If Android phones start eating up the market share, guess what phone based social aggregator users are going to be given? You guessed it, Jaiku, or at least some Googlefied version of it.
I don't think its Google's goal to have an active community for Jaiku yet. The only reason they are still even letting people use the Jaiku service is because they want an existing userbase when they open it up to the public again. They even tell as much on the official Jaiku website FAQ:
Q: Will Google continue to support Jaiku users?
A: Jaiku will continue to support its existing user base. Jaiku users will be able to invite new friends, but new user registrations have been closed for the time being. We are working on exciting new products and our Jaiku users will be among the first to try them out!
